
When I first began working on this initial mixtape for you, my inaugural class of paid subscribers, I was feeling stuck in feelings of anger and frustration. How is it that our nation reelected a man who could be so triggered by a bishop’s call for empathy and compassion that he is now demanding an apology from that brilliant, kind mind? How is it that our nation is apparently OK with schools, churches, and healthcare facilities no longer being off limits to immigration officers? Why is any of this OK with anyone?
I’m still angry, of course, but I credit the English singer FKA twigs with helping me reset my nervous system in preparation for compiling this first mixtape. In an expansive Spotify interview with electronic music icon Imogen Heap previewing the release of her new album EUSEXUA this Friday, FKA twigs spoke of the motivation behind the album and what the whole idea of “eusexua” really means.
