I have no public comment on that big thing that happened this week.
And no, it’s not because people are losing their jobs for stating facts. It’s not because I don’t have thoughts on what happened. But I do think a lot of regular folks like you and I this week are feeling compelled for reasons unknown to share Statements on What Happened in a way that feels deeply unhealthy both to share and consume.
So maybe it’s a good week to just log off from social media for a minute—but don’t disconnect altogether, there’s other very important shit happening in our communities that it’d be helpful if you kept an eye on!—and shift your vibe.
Music is a great way of doing this, but it’s not the only way, of course. It’s just one of my particular favorite ways. Maybe for you it’s digging around in your garden or baking a pie. Going to a movie or checking out your local art show. Volunteering for a cause you believe in or reaching out to a friend you haven’t chatted up for a minute. Maybe it’s showing up to your pal’s book release party—congrats, Cathy Borders!—when it was oh so tempting just to spend the night rotting on the couch and doomscrolling.
