My name is Joe Erbentraut (he/they) and I live in Batavia, Illinois, with my partner and my cat. This is a newsletter about pop culture, politics and gay stuff.

More broadly, it’s also about what to do when you find yourself in a place that wasn’t built for you. It’s about feeling that impulse to act, not knowing how but trying a bunch of things along the way. I’ll share things like what I’m reading, cooking and watching, and also documenting my journey to confront the systems of inequality in my little ole town.

My work has appeared in Thrillist, the Village Voice, Fodor’s, INTO, Riot Fest Magazine, Gapers Block, Windy City Times, Chicagoist and more.
